What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapists (OTs) provide client-centered therapy that considers the complex interaction of:

who you are (the whole person)
what you do (your occupations), how you do it,
and where you do it (the environment)
to help you return to life.

OTs use their expertise in science, creativity, activity analysis, problem solving, and various evidence-based therapy modalities to help clients re-engage in daily activities (i.e. “occupations”) and work towards their goals.

Occupational therapy addresses the occupational disruption that your health condition has on your life and acknowledges that participating in daily activities is central to health and well-being. Thus, resuming engagement in everyday and meaningful occupations to enhance recovery, health, and function is the focus of OT treatment.
